Bent Sandfeld is the new World Champion

VARDE, Denmark -- After a magnificent performance Bent Sandfeld from Hejnsvig, Denmark could see himself become the new World Champion. Runner up became Steffen Andersen and on third place the legendary Alex Kober.

The men's singles competition was played over four rounds. The first cut was after two rounds or 36 holes, leaving the top 70 players on the scoreboard to battle it out for the third round.

After the third round, the top 45 players avoided elimination before the last round of the tournament and the chance to battle it out for the world championship title during the final round.

While the sky was overcast throughout most of the tournament, the rain held off the final round and Varde Fodboldgolf produced a high-intensity finale as the positions changed hands between several players down the stretch.

After 72 holes and a magnificent performance, Bent Sandfeld from Denmark could see himself become the new World Champion.

A 3-way dramatic playoff, between Steffen B. Andersen, Alex Kober and Jakob Nissen, was needed to decide the silver and bronze medalists. Andersen took silver, Kober seized bronze and Nissen unfortunately ended up outside the podium with 4th place.
